  • Lewis County History

Lewis County was created on December 19, 1845, by the provisional government of Oregon Territory, named after the pioneer explorer, Meriwether Lewis.

Visually, Lewis County was once so large geographically that is has become known as the “mother of all counties” – spanning all the land west of the Cowlitz River and north to present-day Sitka, Alaska.

Jerri McCoy:  "THE WITCHES OF SALEM."

There are no witches – are there? Of course not! But in 1692, in Salem, the witch hunt would swell and burn. How were witches identified? What happened to the accused? And who were those who were executed that terrible year in Salem? Come learn a little bit about them and their accusing neighbors.

Jerri McCoy was born and raised in San Diego, California. She received her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from San Diego State University, and worked in the computer industry for 30 years before retiring. She and her husband have been married for over 50 years, and they have two grown sons.

Jerri has been active in genealogy for over 45 years. She is a member of her local genealogical society in Olympia, the Washington State Genealogical Society, and several lineage societies. She is a past president of two genealogical societies, and has held numerous lineage society offices.

Jerri has published three books on her family. Her 8th great grandmother was Rebecca Nurse, which prompted her interest in the Salem Witch Trials. She broke down a major brick wall using land records, and wrote an article documenting this elusive Mayflower line ancestor, which was published in the Mayflower Descendants. She is the Membership Genealogist for the Washington State Mayflower Society.
